Be warned: The movie, too, is committed--to being an equal-opportunity wrongdoer. Its political incorrectness extends now not only to Lazarus's black-like-me posturing but in addition Speedman's contemporary, Sean Penn–style Oscar bid enjoying a cognitively challenged farmboy--or, in Lazarus's deathless phrase, "going the whole retard." This quietly daffy comedy should have been an indie hellot, but ended up not noted through target markets. Too bad; it can be a superbly sustained caper film about pals whose occupation possibility is all improper. Low-key Anthony (Luke Wilson) and hellogh-strung Dignan (Owen C. Wilson--the two actors are brothers) are introduced into a existence of crime via Dignan's ambition to be a small-time thief. After a few amusingly laid-back trial burglaries, they (and a third buddy) in finding themselves over their heads once they hook up with an experienced crime boss (James Caan). Because this movie is so relentlessly deadpan, you truly need to be dialed in to its model of humor--but as quickly as there, Bottle Rocket shoots off lots of sparks. Above all, Owen Wilson's portrayal of Dignan is a terrifically original comic creation; Dignan is so sincerely fascinated about his objectives that he can't see how utterly absurd hellos ideas are. Owen Wilson, who went on to produce similarly knuckle-headed performances in Armageddon and Permanent Midnight, wrote the screenplay with director Wes Anderson..
