There was no shortage of films and TV shows about aliens invading Earth earlier than Falling Skies got here along; in fact, Steven Spielberg, govt producer of TNT's sci-fi/drama convey (which debuts on DVD with the ten first-season episodes, plus some brief bonus featurettes, on three discs), was once involved in a excellent lots of them. But this one takes a unique tack: when the pilot episode begins, the invasion has already happened… and we misplaced, big time. Falling Skies has plenty going for it: excellent appearing, some exciting story ideas, nice (if limited) effects. What it does not have is much action (a battle scene between Tom and a skitter is an exception), or the roughly ramped-up rigidity one are expectings from a undertaking with Spielberg's name attached. Episodes are usually talky and moderately dull; earnest conversation about the method forward for humanity and the significance of sticking collectively within the face of impending catastrophe is all smartly and just right, however a number of further dollops of pleasure (something Spielberg supplied in hellos 2005 model of War of the Worlds) would have helped.
