When 21 Jump Street premiered on Fox in 1987, it provided a cool-kid twist on the cop drama system. This new-era reinvention keeps the law enforcement authentics, but alternates earnest drama for raunchy comedy. At Sagan High, Schmidt (newly scrawny Jonah Hill, contemporary off an Oscar nomination for Moneyball) used to be a brainy guy without a game, whereas Jenko (ever-brawny Channing Tatum, funnier than expected) was a popular jock with unhealthy grades.
