Tropic Thunder (Unrated Director's Cut + BD Live) [Blu-ray]

Tropic Thunder (Unrated Director's Cut + BD Live) [Blu-ray] by Dreamworks Video

Be warned: The movie, too, is committed--to being an equal-opportunity wrongdoer. Its political incorrectness extends now not only to Lazarus's black-like-me posturing but in addition Speedman's contemporary, Sean Penn–style Oscar bid enjoying a cognitively challenged farmboy--or, in Lazarus's deathless phrase, "going the whole retard." Others in the forged include Steve Coogan as a director out of his depth, Nick Nolte as the Viet-vet novelist whose guide impressed the film-within-the-film, Matthew McConaughey as Speedman's sun-blissed agent back home, and Tom Cruise--bald, fat-suited, and profane--as an epically repulsive studio head. Two hours working time is a mite extreme, but in any other case, what's to not like? --Richard T. Jameson Stills from Tropic Thunder (Click for higher image)

It's no longer in level of fact a knock to say that now nothing in Tropic Thunder is funnier than its first five minutes, so sly that--especially for folk watching in theaters--you don't realize in an instant they are the hole minutes of the film. This outrageous comedy begins with a sequence of fake previews, each introducing probably the most primary characters in the film-proper (not that there is the rest proper about this film) and each bearing the familiar emblem of a distinct motion picture studio: Universal, DreamWorks SKG, et al. Such enjoying fast and loose with company talismans verges on sacrilege, but it is an index of how a lot le tout Tinseltown proposes the film as a demented valentine to itself. The premise is that the solid of a would-be "Son of Rambo" film taking photos in some Southeast Asian jungle get into a real taking pictures battle with drug-smuggling montagnards. Don't ask--though the movie does have an answer--why such highly paid, frequently ultra-pampered personnel as superhero Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller), Mozart of fart comedy Jeff Portnoy (Jack Black), hellop-hop artist Alpa Chino (Brandon T. Jackson), and 5-time Oscar-winner Kirk Lazarus from Aus-try-leeah (Robert Downey Jr.) must be running during the jungle unattended and really prone. It topics handiest that the real-life cast has a high time kidding their very own occupation and flexing their comedic muscle tissues. Bonus factors go to Stiller for co-writing the script (with Justin Theroux) and directing, and to Downey, brilliant as a white actor surgically turned black actor for his role and utterly committed to staying in personality no topic what ("I do not drop persona until I done the DVD commentary")..
